The Hardest Thing About Sport Climbing…

…is matching my bites with what I can chew. My brain doubts my appetite.

A huge number of factors are in play in order for me to become a half-decent sport climber. But the greatest factor — and most difficult — is correcting my pre-conceived notions. Thirteen years of thinking such-and-such a grade is hard — and the first ten years of not really trying in a focused, committed way — has pre-conditioned my brain with certain expectations. Those subconscious expectations and unexposed assumptions are messing with my performance.

Don’t trust your brain. BITE BIG. You can chew more than you think.
